Application is seeking approval for painting the security cameras currently installed on the exterior of the building to match the soffit surface to which they are attached (per the vcc guideline recommendations) and for continuing to operate and maintain those cameras in the interest of public safety, including the safety of the patrons of the gold mine saloon (which is located within in the building) and those who visit and reside in the area. The cameras have been installed on the building for over 6 years (since approximately 2009). In addition to ensuring the safety of the late night patrons of the business, the applicant regularly works in cooperation with the nopd and these cameras are routinely relied upon by nopd for criminal investigations in the vieux carre area -- a goal which is particularly relevant in light of the citys recently stated goal of increasing the number of security cameras in the vieux carre in order to stem increased crime.
