(6 15 2016 2:03 pm mg1) a new farmers market structure is being proposed as an addition to the existing canopies to provide cover for all existing vendors as well as heated space for the winter market. The new structure will be located on 4th ave, creating a prominent entrance and highlighting the ann arbor farmers market downtown. The building will provide an attractive focal point for the market, and an identity and street presence to 4th avenue. A primary goal for the project is to pull people into the kerrytown market area by enhancing the pedestrian experience along 4th ave, which on non-market days lacks energy. The structure will be reminiscent of an urban modern barn, borrowing the architecture of the existing canopies and inspired by the agricultural roots of the market. Large industrial type multi-light steel windowed overhead doors will provide an open-air structure, which when closed, will blend with the industrial urban vibe of the neighborhood.
