This event is a parade in honor of the veterans who fought at iwo jima in world war two. Mass general laws ch. 6 sec 12 aa requires that the governor annually proclaim february 19th as "iwo jima day" and encourage the public to observe it accordingly. For the past 14 years the marine corps league has been responsible for this observance. As part of the observance we conduct a small parade from the quincy market area (between faneuil hall and the rear of city hall)to the state house. The parade goes from congress street to state street to tremont street to park street to beacon street. The parade forms in the park area by faneuil hall on congress street at 11 am. The parade steps off at 11: am and follows the above listed route to the state house. At the state house a brief ceremony is held outside and the parade disbands at 12:15 pm. The group then proceeds in to the state house for a ceremony in memorial hall at 12: pm.
