The national park service (nps) has been provided funding to repair lock 3 and provide maintenance operations to lock 4. In order for the contractors to gain access to both locks, a portion of the entrances will be required to be located where pedestrian walkways (brick paver) exists. In addition, lock 3 will require occupying a portion of the sidewalk on the west side of 30th street nw in order to install sheeting and shoring required during the removal and replacement of the lock 3 stones.
